Mission San Fernando Rey de Espana

Nickname: The Mission in the Valley, built September 8th, 1797, 17th mission.

Impressions:

"Better than San Gabriel. Pretty good museum, not a lot of descriptions."

Special Attractions:
  • Mosaic panels with maps of California diocese at different historical points.
  • Largest original mission building still intact. It was 2 stories.
Significant Events:
  • Major damage during 1994 Northridge earthquake, almost decimated, restoration done by FEMA.
Interesting Facts:
  • Has the oldest organ in North America.
  • The first California bishop, Garcia-Diego lived here.
