The old mission walls are still upright, though the original church is completely gone.
Significant Events:
- In 1846 the Mexican governor Pio Pico ordered the dispersed Indian population to return the mission, and when they didn't, the settlers plundered the place. Then a US Army Captain, John Fremont, and his guide, Kit Carson, lined the Native Americans up and massacred them.
Interesting Facts:
- Originally designated a sanitarium for native converts.
- The only one with no courtyard or plaza.
- The entire original structure is gone.
